The James Irvine Foundation has announced fourteen grants totaling more than $13.9 million to organizations working to expand opportunity for all Californians.

Grants awarded through the foundation's new initiatives focused on supporting low-income Californians — Better Careers and Fair Work — include a two-year, $2 million grant to the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) to add career pathway programming to its efforts to help formerly incarcerated, lower-skilled adults; and a two-year, $700,000 grant to Mujeres Unidas y Activas, which supports domestic workers through education, organizing, training, and policy advocacy. Through its Arts Engagement and Linked Learning initiatives, the foundation also awarded a two-year, $200,000 organizational capacity grant to the Ford Theatre Foundation and a two-year, $1 million general support grant to Pivot Learning Partners.

Other grants include $400,000 over two years to KQED in support of its reporting on economic and political opportunity for The California Report and its contributions to the multi-partner California Dream series; $800,000 to the Foundation for California Community Colleges in support of reform-focused capacity-building efforts at the state level; and $600,000 over two years to the Orange County Community Foundation in support of the OC Opportunity Initiative and the foundation's  efforts to protect immigrant rights.
