Indiana University Health (IU Health) has announced a $6 million gift from Sarah and John Lechleiter—former head of Eli Lilly and Company—to expand programs in cardiovascular medicine.

The gift will bolster improvements to cardiovascular patient care and physician training across IU Health’s network of 15 hospitals and its partner the Indiana University School of Medicine. In addition, the award will fund a new faculty chair in cardiovascular innovation and related research at the medical school’s Cardiovascular Institute.

“We are grateful to John and Sarah for their visionary gift to address one of Indiana’s greatest challenges: cardiovascular health,” said IU Health president Dennis Murphy. “Their generosity will strengthen preventive and clinical care options, expand access so more Hoosiers can receive that care, and ensure that we have top clinicians in place to deliver it.”
