The Jackson Symphony in Tennessee has announced a $1 million gift from the family of Alice and Carl Kirkland to expand programming and opportunities for musicians and educators in the area.
The funds will help establish the Kirkland Center for Music Excellence—a hub focused on fostering artistic excellence and providing advanced training and resources to artists in west Tennessee. The symphony plans to offer several programs through the center, including advanced master classes for musicians at all levels, a summer youth institute, educator and conductor development, and professional development grants.
“The Jackson Symphony is deeply honored by this extraordinary gift from the Kirkland family, which brings a bold new vision to life,” said Jackson Symphony executive director Sherry Freeman. “The Kirkland Center for Music Excellence will empower musicians, instructors, and students alike, ensuring that music remains a vital force in our community and beyond.”
