JUST Capital Ranks 100 Most 'Just' U.S. Companies
The JUST Capital Foundation, in partnership with Forbes, has released its inaugural ranking of the one hundred most socially "just" U.S. companies.
Based on a survey of fifty thousand Americans who were asked what they consider to be the most important corporate attributes, JUST Capital ranked nearly nine hundred companies on thirty-six of those attributes across ten categories — including worker pay and benefits, supply chain and environmental impact, contribution to community well-being, customer treatment, and leadership and ethics — against their peers. Companies ranked first in their industries in the "Just 100 List" include AmGen, AT&T, Discovery Communications, Ford Motor Company, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Silicon Valley Bank, and Southwest Airlines. In terms of overall "Just Score," the top five companies on the list include Humana, Accenture, CarMax, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Alphabet (Google).
The analysis, which was funded by the Ford, MCJ Amelior, and Robert Wood Johnson foundations and Virgin Unite, also found that survey respondents considered the most important corporate attributes to be, in order: providing "fair" pay; non-discrimination in hiring, firing, and promotion practices; providing a safe workplace; following laws and regulations; respecting workers; and creating jobs in the U.S. "In a world where shareholders have become too dominant, we're giving other constituencies a voice," said Paul Tudor Jones II, co-founder and board chair of JUST Capital and founder of the Robin Hood Foundation. "Companies depend on communities, workers, and customers."
"JUST Capital started with the question, 'What if we could see which companies use their capital not simply to maximize profits but to create a more just marketplace for all stakeholders?'" added Tudor Jones. "And today, we can see that some of the biggest companies in America — some of the most important companies in the world — are doing that, at a huge scale."
