Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research Names 2015 Scholars
The Baltimore-based Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research has announced the 2015 recipients of its Kimmel Scholars program.
Fifteen promising young cancer researchers in the United States will receive grants of $200,000 over two years to advance their research projects and further their careers. To be selected for the honor, the candidates had to demonstrate great promise and innovation in their work, be in the early stages of their research career, and have not progressed far enough in their research to have received major grants from the National Cancer Institute or other funding sources. "A frequent comment from the grant recipients is that they might never have achieved such success without this early funding from the Kimmel Foundation," said Kimmel.
A Giving Pledge signatory, Sidney Kimmel is president of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and the founder and chair of the Jones Group, Inc. Since the foundation's inception in 1997, it has awarded two hundred and sixty-two Kimmel Scholarships. In addition to the $100 million he has awarded in support of the arts and the Jewish community, he has contributed more than $550 million to cancer centers and research.
