Knight Foundation Awards $1.5 Million to Wright Museum of African-American History
The Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has announced a three-year, $1.5 million grant to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit in support of the museum's programming and educational outreach.
The museum's 22,000-square-foot core exhibition, Still We Rise: Our Journey through African American History, covers 3.5 million years of African and African-American history, moving from ancient Africa to contemporary America. In addition, the museum houses more than 30,000 artifacts and archival materials and features five exhibition areas.
"The Knight Foundation is proud to be a partner in the museum's new exhibit because the Charles H. Wright Museum is the heart of African-American culture for the city and the region," said Brenda Price, the foundation's community liaison for Detroit. "It's one of the jewels in the crown of Detroit's cultural community."
