Knight Foundation commits $2.25 million to expand Miami tech programs

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami has announced a $2.25 million investment in CodePath to expand its program at Florida International University and launch similar efforts at Florida Memorial University and Miami Dade College.

CodePath — a nonprofit organization that provides no-cost software engineering courses, career services, and access to computer science students — partners with institutions to complement their computer science curricula and align with industry needs, prepares students for competitive internships, and places students in software engineering roles at leading tech companies. CodePath launched its programming at FIU in 2020 and has integrated multiple courses into the university’s computer science curriculum.

“We must create more support structures to cultivate a tech talent pool that reflects Miami’s population,” said CodePath co-founder and CEO Michael Ellison. “Through our Knight partnership, we will serve and attract college students to join our tech movement and create a larger, more diverse talent pipeline for employers.”
