The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has announced that it has exceeded its $750 million fundraising campaign goal.

Launched in 2014, the LACMA campaign is funding construction of the David Geffen Galleries, which is 65 percent complete. The largest of a series of gifts that put the museum over its goal was more than $20 million from LACMA trustee Steve Tisch. Other major donors to the campaign include Elaine Wynn and the W.M. Keck Foundation, with each giving more than $50 million. The galleries will be owned by Los Angeles County; 20 percent of its operational funding will come from the county, the other 80 percent from private donations.

“We have reached this milestone thanks to the extraordinary generosity and hard work of so many people,” said LACMA chief executive and director Michael Govan. “The David Geffen Galleries will not only be a sublime new home for LACMA’s collections, but a testament to a remarkable wellspring of civic pride and an incredible gift to Los Angeles.”
