Lindbergh Foundation announces alliance to decarbonize aviation

The Lindbergh Foundation has announced the creation of an alliance that will launch incentive prizes aimed at decarbonizing the aviation industry.

The Forever Flight Alliance, which includes the XPRIZE Foundation, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA), will work to establish a global brain trust of innovators, solution-seekers, and thought leaders; map and accelerate the pathways to achieve net-zero aviation; and create incentive prizes to accelerate transformational breakthroughs. Announced at the Business Aviation Sustainability Summit during the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE), the alliance coincided with the 95th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s historic 1927 flight from New York to Paris, which had been inspired by the Orteig Prize, one of the first philanthropic incentive prizes.

“As we approach the centennial anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 New York to Paris flight, we have an opportunity that is not just a celebration, but a call to action to make aviation permanently sustainable,” said Lindbergh Foundation chair Erik Lindbergh. “The Forever Flight Alliance builds on the success initiated with the Orteig Prize that incentivized Charles Lindbergh’s historic flight across the Atlantic and the Ansari XPRIZE that launched the commercial spaceflight revolution.”
