A public-private partnership between LISC Jacksonville and the City of Jacksonville will commit $35.5 million to community improvement and economic development projects over the next five years, the Jacksonville Business Journal reports.

With commitments of $20 million from LISC and $15.5 million in state and federal funding, the Renew Jax partnership will work to improve housing and infrastructure in East and Northwest Jacksonville. Projects include the acquisition and redevelopment of existing housing units as well as construction of affordable single-family homes, construction of box culverts to improve driver and pedestrian safety, construction of water mains and sidewalks, and a preliminary engineering study aimed at improving drainage in low-lying areas.

"We're doing this because neighborhoods are our heart and soul, where we raise our families, where we worship, where our small businesses start," said Jacksonville mayor Alvin Brown. "Jacksonville’s success depends on the success of all of our neighborhoods."
