The Livestrong Foundation has announced a grant of $6.2 million from its partner Movember, which stages a mustache-growing competition every November to raise awareness about men's health issues, with a focus on prostate and testicular cancer.

Livestrong will use the grant to develop a program that helps men affected by prostate or testicular cancer access a variety of services, including free online and phone support, peer and one-on-one counseling, clinical trials, and information about treatments and side effects.

In partnership with the Patient Advocate Foundation, Livestrong also will create a financial assistance program for patients who have radiation co-payments associated with treatment of their prostate cancer.

"With one out of ever two men projected to receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, this funding comes at a critical time," said Livestrong president and CEO Doug Ulman. "We plan to put it to use immediately to improve the lives of men facing cancer today."
