MacArthur Funds Award $1 Million to Small Chicago Arts Organizations
The MacArthur Funds for Arts and Culture at the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and the Prince Charitable Trusts have announced $1.2 million in grants to Chicago-area arts and cultural organizations.
The thirty-one grants totaling $695,000 awarded through the Prince Trusts, which supports mid-sized organizations with annual budgets between $500,000 and $2 million, included $30,000 each to the About Face Theater, Music of the Baroque, and the Dance Center at Columbia College; $25,000 each to Chicago Chamber Musicians, the River North Chicago Dance Company, and the Hyde Park Art Center; and $20,000 each to the Arts & Business Council of Chicago, the Black Ensemble Theater, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the Writers' Theatre.
The fifty-seven grants totaling $500,000 awarded through the Driehaus Foundation, which supports organizations with budgets of $500,000 or less, included $20,000 to Anchor Graphics; $10,000 each to the Beacon Street Gallery and Performance Co., Chicago Dramatists, and the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus; and $7,500 each to the Chicago Artists' Coalition, Chicago Filmmakers, the Salt Creek Ballet, and Free Street Programs.
The MacArthur Funds for Arts and Culture were established in April 2003 with $6.5 million in grants from the Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation.
