MacKenzie Scott files for divorce from Dan Jewett
Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has filed for divorce from her second husband, Dan Jewett, the New York Times reports.
According to the Times, Scott filed a petition for divorce in the King County Superior Court in Washington State. Jewett did not contest the divorce, and any division of property was laid out in a separation agreement that was not made public.
Even before Scott and Jewett married in 2021, they had been partners in the philanthropic giving made possible by her previous marriage to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, which ended in divorce in 2019. They both posted letters on the Giving Pledge site—Scott in May 2019 and Jewett in March 2021—that spoke of their efforts to support causes that were important to them. “I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote in his letter, which no longer appears on the site.
Since 2019, Scott has awarded more than $12 billion to numerous nonprofits across the country.
