Mary Baldwin University receives $5 million pledge for nursing program
Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia, has announced a $5 million pledge from William H. Goodwin, Jr. and his wife, Alice Tolley Goodwin ('66), for an expansion of the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences.
Half the gift will be allocated as start-up costs for a recently announced hybrid Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program slated to launch in August, including the hiring of faculty, facility upgrades, and equipment. The remaining $2.5 million will be used create a self-sustaining program that connects basic research discoveries to clinical practice. The commitment is the second major gift the Goodwin family has made to the university.
"To be truly impactful, medical breakthroughs in labs must be matched with breakthroughs at the bedside," said the Goodwins. "This gift to Mary Baldwin's DNP program represents an exciting investment in the future of healthcare delivery and helping to close the gap between research discoveries and their practical application to patient care. We hope it will inspire others who share our passion for helping people."
