McCune Foundation receives $36 million in gifts

The McCune Foundation in Ventura, California, has announced that it received gifts totaling $36 million from SAGE Publishing.

The gifts include $35 million to fully fund the foundation’s endowment and $1 million in support of its 2022 operations. Established in 1990, the foundation promotes productive change in society by providing sustained support for social justice causes. Over the past three decades, it has helped mobilize youth groups, farm workers, immigrants, and rural residents in pursuit of various social justice goals for their communities.

Sara Miller McCune, who took over as president of the foundation after her husband died in 1990, also serves as president of SAGE Publishing. In December 2021, she signed over her voting shares and control of the company to the independent SAGE-SMM Trust to help ensure that the company remains independent.
