The McGill University Health Centre Foundation in Montreal has announced the launch of a three-year, C$3 million ($2 million) initiative to revolutionize palliative care at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
The campaign will support research, expand specialized training for healthcare providers, and enhance programs that bring comfort and dignity to patients and their loved ones. The campaign was inspired by Dame Cicely Saunders, the English physician credited with founding modern hospice care, and Dr. Balfour Mount, who brought her vision to Canada.
“The MUHC Foundation has worked closely with Dr. Sanders to build this campaign to support research and education efforts to transform the culture of care for people affected by serious illness, at any stage of their treatment,” said MUHC president and CEO Marie-Hélène Laramée. “We’re very proud to honor Dr. Balfour Mount and his profound belief that palliative care is about more than medicine—it’s about living fully, with dignity, comfort, and compassion.”
