McKnight Foundation Announces Quarterly Grants, Impact Investments

The Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation has announced second-quarter grants totaling $15.2 million to sixty-six nonprofit organizations and $32.5 million in impact investments.

Grant recipients include the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, which was awarded $150,000 over two years in support of its  Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood initiative; Management Assistance Programs for Nonprofits, which received $50,000 for the development of the Coalition of Asian American Leaders; MinnCAN, which was awarded $200,000 over two years in support of its work to close opportunity gaps in PK-12 education; and the National Academy of Sciences, which received $100,000 to support in the state’s efforts to develop comprehensive plans to improve the PK-3 education workforce.

Through its impact investing program, the foundation invested $25 million in Stewart Investors, which manages a portfolio of companies involved in providing sustainable goods and services, responsible finance, and necessary infrastructure, and $7.5 million  in New Energy Capital's Infrastructure Credit Fund, which provides loans for renewable energy projects.

"Third-grade literacy is a key front in the larger push toward racial, social, cultural, and economic equity," said McKnight's board chair Meghan Binger Brown. "McKnight is proud to support organizations like these, working on behalf of students and teachers to create opportunity for all."
