Meyer Memorial Trust in Portland, Oregon, has announced social justice grants totaling $3.6 million for 14 collaboratives.

The latest round of Justice Oregon for Black Lives grants will fund several organizations in the state working to sustain thriving Black ecosystems and build social justice movements. Recipients include HOLLA School, which will partner with Oregon Alliance of Black School Educators and Warner Pacific University to create a Black teacher recruitment and retainment pipeline; Building Blocks 2 Success alongside McDaniel High School, Oregon Health and Science University, Oregon State University, and the National Society of Black Engineers Portland Chapter, which aim to establish a comprehensive and impactful STEM education ecosystem in Portland with a focus on Black students; and Black Educational Achievement Movement, the Blueprint Foundation, Play Grow Learn, and other community partners, which will form an integrated network of community-based organizing to support Black youth in East Multnomah County.

“I believe that if there can be some form of reparative action for the Black community here, then it can happen across the United States,” said Justice Oregon for Black Lives program officer Allister Byrd. “And that can benefit all communities, not just ours. If we can start here."
