Minderoo Foundation pledges $17.4 million for children’s cancer center
The Minderoo Foundation in Dalkeith, Australia, has announced a commitment of AU$20 million ($17.4 million) in support of Australia’s first comprehensive cancer care facility for children.
The gift is part of an AU$658 million ($483.8 million) collaboration with the Children’s Cancer Institute, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, and the University of New South Wales, as well as the New South Wales and Commonwealth governments to develop a fully integrated cancer center, combining clinical care with groundbreaking research and education to help end childhood cancer. To be named in honor of the Minderoo Foundation, the center will be part of the larger development of the Randwick Health and Education Precinct in Sydney.
The foundation, established by mining magnate Andrew Forrest and his wife, Nicola, has supported several cancer research collaborations in Australia. The couple joined the Giving Pledge in 2013.
“Nicola and I are proud to support generous Australians and organizations help build what will become a world leading collaboration,” said Andrew Forrest. “We are proud to be leading the way in helping to realize this extraordinary vision… saving the lives of children with cancer,” said Nicola Forrest.
