Moore Foundation announces 2023 Experimental Physics Investigators
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has announced its second cohort of Experimental Physics Investigators, who will receive a total of $26.2 million.
The 21 fellows will each receive $1.25 million over the next five years to pursue transformative research during a critical time in their careers—directly following attainment of tenure—and build collaborative relationships that enable innovative discoveries as they explore a broad range of open scientific questions. For example, Keji Lai from the University of Texas at Austin is developing a nanoscale acoustic microscope to investigate quantum acoustic processes that might be used to transmit data for quantum computers, and investigator Guang Bian from the University of Missouri is developing a systematic method to synthesize semimetals and explore their exotic electromagnetic properties.
“This award is enabling a new research thrust for my group to explore quantum information science, which is drastically different from our current efforts in condensed matter physics,” said Lai.
