More Than Fifty Commitments to Action Announced at CGI America

More than fifty commitments to action were announced at the Clinton Global Initiative America 2016 meeting in Atlanta, which concluded Tuesday.

Now in its sixth year, the Clinton Foundation initiative convened nearly a thousand civil society, business, and government leaders with an interest in encouraging economic growth, supporting long-term competitiveness, and increasing social mobility in the United States. Collectively, the commitments will provide more than three hundred and fifty thousand people in underserved communities with access to programs while enabling over three thousand educators to participate in professional development programs. In addition, more than a hundred and twenty-nine thousand girls and women are expected to benefit from early childhood development programs and increased access to employment and skills development opportunities, while more than thirty-five hundred veterans will benefit from programs that help them stay connected to their families during deployment, gain job skills, and access financial services.

Commitments announced at the event include a pledge of $25 million by Cox Enterprises in support of efforts to develop sustainable companies and technologies; a commitment by the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, City of Atlanta, and Trust for Public Land  to develop Mims Park in the historic Vine City neighborhood on Atlanta's Westside; a pledge by the Family Independence Initiative to provide five thousand families with access to information about financial benefits and services; and a commitment by College Possible to focus on capacity-building rather than direct service delivery, with the goal of helping colleges and universities better support low-income students through graduation.

"The work CGI America attendees have accomplished over the past two days proves that networks of creative cooperation work better than conflict," said former President Bill Clinton. "I'm proud that new commitments made will impact so many lives because you chose to work together to create a better future."
