Morehead-Cain Foundation Announces 2010 Scholars

The Morehead-Cain Foundation has announced the 2014 class of Morehead-Cain Scholars, each of whom will receive a full scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The scholarships, which are awarded solely on the basis of merit, pay a student's expenses for four years of undergraduate study, including the cost of a laptop and four summer enrichment programs. This year's cohort of sixty-four scholars includes thirty students from North Carolina, twenty-four from other states, three from Great Britain, three from Canada, two from Uganda, and two from Turkey. The value of the scholarship is now more than $80,000 for an in-state student and more than $140,000 for an out-of-state student.

In the past eight years, ten Morehead-Cain Scholars have won Rhodes Scholarships. Since the first class of Morehead Scholars graduated in 1957, twenty-seven of UNC's thirty Rhodes Scholars have been Morehead-Cain graduates.
