Mott Foundation Announces $1.6 Million in Grants
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan, has announced twenty-five grants totaling $1.6 million.
Twenty grants were awarded in the area of civil society; three to environmental organizations; and two to the University of Michigan-Flint. Among the civil society grants, the Washington, D.C.-based Urban Institute received the largest award, $248,283 for an analysis of expenses and compensation in large and mid-size foundations. Grants of $100,000 were awarded to three other D.C.-based organizations: the Nonprofit Sector Research Fund at the Aspen Institute; the Bosnian Human Rights Law Group at Global Rights; and the Council on Foundations, for its international program.
Grants of $75,000 were also awarded to the New York City-based Synergos Institute, in support of the organization's Global Philanthropy program; and to the Lansing-based Michigan Nonprofit Association, for its Michigan Public Policy Initiative. Baltimore-based Associated Black Charities received $50,000 for its African American Philanthropy Initiative, which is designed to encourage the development of philanthropy within the African-American community.
