Mott Foundation Awards Grants Totaling $1.9 Million to Flint, Detroit-Area Nonprofits

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $1.9 million in support of nonprofits in Flint and Detroit as well as efforts to strengthen philanthropy and civic participation globally, mLive.com reports.

Grant recipients include the Genesee Area Focus Fund, which was awarded $850,000 to enable the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce to develop and implement summer education and employment programs for Flint-area youth; and Detroit-based Focus: HOPE, which will receive $750,000 to help leverage other investments and continue its manufacturing and information technology training programs.

In addition, the foundation awarded four grants totaling $306,000 to strengthen philanthropy around the globe, including $90,000 for philanthropy development efforts in southeastern Europe; $80,000 for civic participation and $76,000 for community foundation development efforts in Central/Eastern Europe and Russia; and $60,000 for fiscal opportunity projects in North America.
