Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto Receives $10 Million Gift for Cancer Center

Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto has announced a $10 million gift from Isadore and Rosalie Sharp in support of its specialized cancer programs.

The gift will support specialized oncology programs in breast, urologic, sarcoma, head and neck, and gastrointestinal and colorectal/abdominal cancers in the newly renamed Christopher Sharp Cancer Centre, where some two thousand patients a year undergo cancer surgery and thousands of others receive treatment. In 2007, the couple contributed $5 million for the Christopher Sharp Centre for Surgical Oncology in honor of their son, who died of cancer in 1978.

The latest gift is part of the Campaign to Renew Sinai, the largest capital campaign in the hospital's history. Isadore Sharp is founder, chair, and the former CEO of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and the Sharps are longtime donors to Mount Sinai Hospital, having made their first gift more than forty years ago.

"While our motivation for supporting the extraordinary cancer care at Mount Sinai is deeply personal as a way to honor our late son's memory," said the couple in a statement, "it is also rooted in a profound respect for the inspiring clinical care delivered to patients every day at Mount Sinai."
