Movember Awards $7.9 Million for Canadian Mental Health Programs
The Movember Foundation has announced three grants totaling $7.9 million for men's mental health programs in Canada.
Awarded through the foundation's Mental Health initiative, the grants will support collaborative research projects aimed at improving the mental health and well-being of men and boys. Grants were awarded to Université de Moncton for an examination of best practices for prevention, early identification, and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in men with heart disease; the University of Calgary for a study on early identification and prevention of major depression in male workers; and the Labrador Grenfell Regional Health Authority to evaluate pathways to mental wellness for indigenous boys and men in the Canadian North. To date, Movember has invested more than $22.6 million in twenty-seven men's mental health and well-being projects in Canada.
"It's with thanks to our Mo bros and Mo sistas that sign up every Movember that we are able to provide programs to men in need of mental health support," said Movember Canada director Pete Bombaci. "The power of the moustache is helping to break down barriers and allows us to invest in such incredible programs that are helping to improve the lives of those men living with and beyond mental health issues."
