Nemours Children’s receives $2.2 million for robotic surgery program
Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, Delaware, has announced a $2.2 million grant from the Don and Lorraine Freeberg Foundation to purchase equipment and develop a pediatric robotic surgery program at Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH) in Orlando, Florida.
The Pediatric Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Program—centered on the use of the hospital’s da Vinci Surgical System, purchased with the support of the foundation—is designed to dramatically improve patient outcomes by leveraging a minimally invasive approach, decreasing post-operative pain, and shortening hospital stays. The latest grant boosts the foundation’s support for the program to $2.8 million.
The program has enabled the hospital “to recruit top surgical talent...enhance the overall patient experience, and improve the recovery process for children,” said NCH chief of surgery Adela Casas-Melley.
