New York Community Trust awards grants totaling $7.9 million
The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling $7.9 million to fifty-eight organizations working to assist communities as they recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grants were awarded to nonprofits serving New York City's Asian-American and LGBTQ communities, youth, girls and women, and older adults, including the Asian American Federation, which was awarded $250,000 in support of its Hope Against Hate Campaign; New Pride Agenda, which will receive $100,000 to promote the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication among transgender women of color; Legal Outreach, which was awarded $150,000 to launch a civic engagement and social justice initiative for young people; Safe Horizon, which will receive $125,000 to help women survivors of domestic violence living in shelters access mental health services; and the New York Academy of Medicine, which was awarded $50,000 in support of its Age-Friendly New York City program.
The foundation also awarded grants in the areas of arts and culture, arts education, community development, conservation and environment, education, health, and human justice. Recipients include Chicken & Egg Pictures ($200,000), the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable ($110,000), Environmental Advocates of New York ($100,000), Neighborhood Housing Services of Staten Island ($125,000), Advocates for Children of New York ($220,000), Helen Keller International ($100,000), and the Bronx Defenders ($150,000).
