New York Community Trust Awards Grants Totaling $8.2 Million
The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling $8.2 million to fifty-six organizations in the five boroughs of New York City.
Grants were awarded in the areas of community development, education, biomedical research, and aging, as well as to reduce maternal morbidity among African-American women, boost voter turnout in the region, and advance the careers of young artists.
Recipients include the Fund for Public Health in New York, which was awarded $300,000 to help healthcare institutions provide better care for African-American women in the city; the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, which will receive $290,000 to register people with disabilities and improve their access to civic engagement opportunities; ArtsConnection, which was awarded $500,000 to start a free/low-cost museum admission program for families that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; and Solar One and Joint Ownership Entity New York City, which were awarded grants totaling $440,000 to install solar on the rooftops of public housing complexes across the city.
Other grant recipients include the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation, which will receive $100,000 to engage local residents and merchants in revitalizing the Southern Boulevard corridor in the Bronx; Lark Theatre Company, which was awarded $150,000 in support of one-year fellowships for four emerging playwrights of color; the Fund for Public Schools, which will receive $375,000 to provide arts education training to pre-K teachers; and Girls for Gender Equity, which was awarded $85,000 to strengthen its programs for young women of color.
