Niarchos Foundation commits $750 million to hospitals in Greece
The Athens-based Stavros Niarchos Foundation has committed $750 million to fund new hospitals in three cities in Greece, the National Herald reports.
Grants awarded through the foundation’s health initiative will fund hospitals in Komotini, Thessaloniki, and Sparta. According to the National Herald, the foundation aims to improve health care outside of the Greek capital by 2025.
The hospital in Thessaloniki will focus on pediatrics. The hospital in Komotini, which will replace Sismanogleio General Hospital, is dedicated to general health care and will work with a network of local healthcare centers across eastern Macedonia and Thrace. And the Sparta hospital will provide acute secondary care for adults and children and specialized services.
