Nichols School receives $14 million for student scholarships
The Nichols School, a college preparatory day school in Buffalo, New York, has announced a $14 million gift from the Chispa Foundation in support of student scholarships for African Americans.
The Chispa Scholarship Program will award full-tuition scholarships annually to two rising African-American fifth-graders from Buffalo. In addition to tuition through senior year, the scholarships will provide funding for books, fees, technology, transportation, and extracurricular activities, as well as student mentoring and academic support programs.
"This is a gift to the City of Buffalo," said Chispa Foundation president Sheila Cullen. "Nichols School is a hundred and twenty-nine-year-old institution that serves as a tremendous educational asset to the community. The Chispa scholarships intend to help make this asset accessible to low-income families in the Buffalo community and help make Nichols more representative of the community it serves."
