Northeastern University in Boston has announced a $25 million gift from trustee and alumnus Alan McKim to establish eight endowed chairs across the university.

Made in honor of Northeastern University president Joseph E. Aoun, the gift will catalyze the university’s fundraising campaign, Experience Powered by Northeastern, of which McKim is the co-chair. The endowed chairs will be established in Aoun’s name.

Previous gifts to Northeastern from the founder and CEO of Clean Harbors include $60 million from McKim and his longtime friend, Rich D’Amore, in 2012 to rename the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.

“A more thoughtful, genuine donor would be almost impossible to find in terms of just his desire to do great things,” said Diane MacGillivray, Northeastern’s senior vice president for university advancement, “to do good in the world, to support students, to support education, to support discovery via faculty research. I’m incredibly lucky and privileged to have him co-chair the new campaign.”

“This is not a gift in my name, but a gift in our name, collectively,” said Aoun. “And we are going to benefit from it for years to come. Thank you, thank you.”
