Nucor Corporation awards $1 million for new library in Charlotte
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation has announced a $1 million gift from Nucor Corporation, a leading sustainable steel producer, to help develop a new library in uptown Charlotte.
With the gift, the foundation’s $143 million CommonSpark Campaign is $20 million short of its goal to fund construction of a main library. The campaign also will support renovation of a library administration center; technology, innovation, and programming across the library system; and an endowment for annual and future operating support. In recognition of the company’s support, the fifth-floor terrace in the new library will carry the Nucor name.
“It is a distinct privilege to contribute to building Charlotte’s new main library,” said Nucor CEO Leon Topalian, “This is our home, and our teammates and their families have dedicated themselves to being stewards in the communities where they live and work. The library and this ambitious campaign bring us closer to fulfilling our commitment to building places that are sustainable, equitable, and strong.”
