Open Society Foundations announces 2023 Soros Equality Fellows
The Open Society Foundations has announced its 2023 cohort of Soros Equality Fellows.
Launched in 2017, the program provides leadership development training, networking, and other professional support aimed at strengthening new ideas in racial and social justice movements. Each of this year’s 12 fellows will receive stipends of $130,000 over 18 months to address a range of policy issues that disproportionately harm BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) communities, including government surveillance programs, AI, and environmental waste management practices.
This year’s fellows include Sayu Bhojwani, who will advise practitioners on sustainable leadership practices and collective power for cohorts of women of color in electoral politics and organizing; Assia Boundaoui, who will design an interactive installation to address intergenerational trauma caused by targeted state surveillance of Muslim-American communities across the country; and Ruxandra Guidi, who will produce a podcast about racial justice victories in the United States.
“As we navigate the many challenges, both new and unfamiliar, to advance racial justice, we are proud to support the remarkable individuals pushing for real and lasting change that is representative of the inclusive multiracial democracy we aspire to become,” said Open Society-U.S. senior program officer Andrew Maisel. “This seventh cohort…brings a vision, passion, and creativity to this work that is necessary and truly inspiring.”
