Opportunity Finance Network awards $11 million from Google to CDFIs

The Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) has announced $11 million in grants to 55 community development financial institutions (CDFIs) through an initiative in partnership with Google.org, the technology giant’s charitable arm.

Grants ranging from $75,000 to $750,000 were made through OFN’s Google.org-funded CDFI Technology Grant Program. The selected CDFIs will also receive pro bono coaching from Google.org to help accelerate their tech innovation projects. In addition, grantees will participate in Google-led workshops aimed at helping to build capacity across a range of areas, including user experience design and product management. Since 2020, OFN has distributed $180 million from Google with resources reaching more than 130,000 small businesses.

“Google’s support of OFN grew out of a shared purpose of investing in underserved communities and mutual recognition that CDFIs are a proven model for doing so,” said OFN president and CEO Lisa Mensah. “We believe this is a model for other corporations and philanthropies with similar missions to follow.”
