The Otto Bremer Foundation in St. Paul has announced grants totaling $10.7 million — the largest payout in its history — to nonprofits in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Sixty-six grants were awarded to organizations in Minnesota, including grants of $250,000 to Children's Dental Services in Minneapolis in support of a dental therapy training program and dental services in central Minnesota and the Wayzata-based Community of Recovering People for scholarships to residents of the state in need of addiction recovery services; and a grant of $175,000 to the PACER Center in Bloomington in support of its Children's Mental Health Project, which works to improve the health and well-being of children with mental health and emotional or behavioral disorders.

Twenty-five grants were awarded to organizations in North Dakota, including a grant of $100,000 to Fargo-Moorhead Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in support of operations at its emergency shelter and the basic needs of homeless men in the area; $150,00 to the Community Foundation of Grand Forks for general operating support; and $175,000 to Legal Services of North Dakota in support of its efforts to provide legal services to low-income individuals in the western part of the state.

And seventeen grants were awarded to organizations in Wisconsin, including a grant of $50,000 to the Family Resource Center for Eau Claire County to provide family and child education resources in Dunn County and a grant of $67,000 to the United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley to hire a volunteer coordinator for its Successful Children's Network. In addition, the foundation awarded $165,000 to Independent Sector in Washington, D.C., and $75,000 to the Notah Begay III Foundation in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, in support of its Native Strong program, which offers technical assistance, research and advocacy in Native American communities in northern Minnesota.
