The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has announced the appointment of MARCUS McGREW as director of grantmaking, learning, and operations, effective February 1. McGrew joins the foundation after more than a decade at the Kresge Foundation, where he served most recently as director of program operations and information management. In that role, he led a team that worked collaboratively across the foundation to develop processes and systems that support grantmaking, leverage data to inform strategic decision making, and foster organizational learning and ensure legal compliance of grants.

The Meyer Foundation has announced the appointment of GEORGE L. ASKEW as its next president and CEO, effective April 1. Askew previously served as the first permanently appointed deputy commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, in the Obama administration as the first chief medical officer of the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and as deputy CEO and chief development officer for Voices for America’s Children; he also is the founder of Docs for Tots, which brings together children’s doctors and communities to foster healthy development and future success. In addition, he has been awarded the BMe Vanguard Fellowship for “remarkable Black men and women whose dedication to helping others has earned the trust of their peers and community” and named an Ashoka International Fellow. Askew succeeds NICKY GOREN, who announced last March her decision to step down as CEO after setting a course for the organization’s focus on racial equity during her seven-year tenure.

The Obama Foundation has announced the appointment of ADREN WILSON as the new executive director of My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBKA), effective March 7. Wilson has served as deputy chief of staff to the governor of Louisiana; as the national CEO of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps national service program; and as national director of youth and student leadership at the Children’s Defense Fund. MBKA to build safe and supportive communities where boys and young men of color have clear pathways to opportunity. MBKA grew out of the Obama administration’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative—launched in 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential—and is focused on building safe and supportive communities where they feel valued and have clear pathways to opportunity.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has announced that SUSAN PACKARD ORR and NANCY BURNETT have retired from the foundation’s board. Daughters of David and Lucile Packard, Orr and Burnett are two of the foundation’s longest-serving trustees. In recognition of their service and contributions, Orr and Burnett have been appointed honorary trustees emeriti, which will enable them to continue to advise the foundation and participate in a variety of charitable activities. 

The California Wellness Foundation has announced the appointment of LORI A. COX as its vice president of programs, effective April 18. Cox currently leads the Alameda County Social Services Department, the county’s largest agency with a budget of over $850 million and 2,700 employees and responsibility for allocating more than $100 million annually to community serving organizations. 

The Arthritis Foundation has announced the appointment of STEVEN TAYLOR as its new president and CEO. He succeeds ANN M. PALMER, who retired on January 31, after leading the organization for eight years. Taylor joined the Arthritis Foundation in February 2021 as executive vice president, mission & strategic initiatives. In this role, he led the mission, advocacy, science, finance, and human resources departments and helped develop the foundation’s strategic mission plan. Previously, he served as president and CEO of the Sjögren’s Foundation for 18 years, where he oversaw the development of the Clinical Practices Guidelines—a first-of-its-kind resource for physicians to help treat, manage, and monitor their patients.                   

The Foundation for Contemporary Arts has announced the appointment of KAY TAKEDA as executive director, effective March 28. She succeeds STACY TENENBAUM STARK, who served in the role from 2005 to 2021. Takeda will lead the foundation in its work to recognize, support, and respond to the changing needs of experimental artists, providing vision, leadership, and management for operations and activities. Prior to joining FCA, she was deputy director of artist programs at the Joan Mitchell Foundation, where she oversaw a roster of artist-focused initiatives including national fellowships, resources for artist legacy planning, and residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans. 

Opportunity International has announced that MICHAEL CHITWOOD is the organization’s new chief philanthropy officer. Most recently Chitwood served as executive director of church and ministry partnerships at World Vision USA, where he was responsible for leading a global multi-functional team of approximately 100 staff in partnering with individual churches, church networks, and ministry partners.

The Council on Foundations has announced the appointment of three philanthropic executives to its board of directors: SRIKANTH GOPAL, managing partner of Humanity United; GALEN MANESS, chief operating officer of the San Francisco Foundation; and JAY WILLIAMS, president and CEO of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. For more than a decade, Gopal has focused on trust building and strategic learning, with previous roles at the Democracy Fund and social change consulting firm FSG. Maness served as the San Francisco Foundation’s senior director of human resources and administration for six years before assuming the role of chief operating officer in 2021. Williams served in several public-sector roles, including mayor of Youngstown, Ohio; U.S. assistant secretary of commerce for economic development; and deputy director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. In addition, two members of the 2021 board have been approved for a second term.

Good Shepherd Services has announced the appointment of three new members of the organization’s executive leadership team: THEORY THOMPSON as chief program officer for educational and vocational programs, ELIZABETH GARCIA as chief program officer for community-based programs, and VICTOR O. OLDS as chief legal officer. Thompson and Garcia have each been with Good Shepherd Services for more than a decade, while Olds most recently served as the director and chief procurement officer in the Office of Contract Services in New York City.

The Dorothy A. Johnson Center has announced the addition of ALEXANDRA AKAAKAR as a data analyst. In this role, she will support data collection, presentation, and analysis for the Community Data and Research lab, including dashboards that effectively communicate the evaluative successes of Johnson Center projects.

The Women’s Funding Network has announced the launch of a new policy program with the hire of MIRENDA MEGHELLI, who will serve as WFN’s senior manager for policy and programs. WFN also announced the hire of KINISHA HOLLAND as operations associate. Holland will support WFN’s leadership team in daily operational tasks, process improvement and overall efficiency, and serve as a liaison to the board of directors.
