The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation in St. Paul, Minnesota, has announced the appointment of ARMANDO CAMACHO as president and CEO, succeeding interim president Brad Hewitt, who stepped into the role following the departure of former president and CEO MayKao Y. Hang in October. Effective July 1, Camacho will become the seventh president in Wilder’s 114-year history and will lead its work to provide services in support of mental health, housing stability, early childhood development, and healthy aging for thousands of people each year in the greater St. Paul community. For the past six years, Camacho has served as president and CEO of Opportunity Partners, a large nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and residential support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Prior to joining Opportunity Partners, he served as president of Neighborhood House, where he led a strategic redesign and expansion of programs to better support the housing, education, wellness, and basic needs of the St. Paul community.

Strada Education Network, a national social impact organization dedicated to forging new pathways between education and employment, has announced the appointment of COURTNEY HILLS McBETH as senior vice president of national engagement operations. In that role, McBeth, who most recently served as special assistant to the president at the University of Utah, will be responsible for overseeing efforts related to Strada’s fusion center, the organization’s internal means for maximizing its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also will focus on integrating the organization’s research, work, and ideas into the broader network and coordinating additional partnerships with institutions, think tanks, universities, policy organizations, and employer groups.

The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) has announced the appointment of AILEEN HEFFERREN as its new chief executive officer and director. Currently the chief executive of Prep for Prep, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the academic, personal, and professional advancement of underserved New York City students, Hefferren will assume her new role at CMOM on September 15.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in Owings Mills, Maryland, has announced the election of FAY HARTOG-LEVIN to a three-year term as chair of its board of trustees. Hartog-Levin is a Distinguished Fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and was a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School from 2013 to 2017. From 2009 through 2011, she served as the sixty-fifth ambassador of the United States of America to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Hartog-Levin’s parents were Dutch Jews who fled from the Netherlands to Suriname in 1942 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1948, shortly before she was born. Ambassador Hartog-Levin’s prior professional roles include serving as a senior consultant at Res Publica Group, as vice president for external affairs at the Field Museum, and as a legal advisor to the Illinois State Board of Education. She will succeed ROBERT T. KELLY, JR., who joined the foundation in 2006 as a trustee and most recently served as the foundation’s chair for a three-year term that ended May 31.

The Kresge Foundation in Troy, Michigan, has announced the retirement of PHILLIP L. CLAY and STEVEN K. HAMP from its board. Clay joined the board in 2008 at a time when he was serving as chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he had also served as provost and lead its department of urban studies and planning. A nationally renowned expert on affordable housing, Clay has headed up the foundation’s audit committee since 2008 and has been a staunch proponent of its embrace of diversity, equity, and inclusion and of its work on higher education access and success. Formerly a vice president and chief of staff of the Detroit-based global Ford Motor Co., Hamp has been a champion of the foundation’s work in Detroit, led a coalition of the foundation’s cultural organizations, and helped push it to make major investments in the city’s Woodward Corridor — all the while advocating for the Motor City and its residents.

And PND notes the passing of Christel House founder and board chair CHRISTEL DeHAAN at the age of 77. After co-founding Resort Condominiums International (RCI), DeHaan created Christel House International in 1998 with the goal of transforming the lives of impoverished children around the globe. Employing a holistic human development model, the organization today serves nearly six thousand students and graduates through schools in India, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, and the United States.
