The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has announced the appointments of two managing directors to its leadership team: DANIEL SHOY, JR. and ELIZABETH BROWN. Shoy will join as managing director, Youth Development, starting February 14; he previously worked at the Blank Family Foundation for nearly ten years, overseeing $28 million in grantmaking, and returns after spending more than a decade at the East Lake Foundation, where he most recently served as president and CEO. Brown will join as managing director, Mental Health and Well-Being, starting March 14; she joins the foundation from Community Foundation Sonoma County, where she served for nine years as president and CEO.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund has announced that Paige Cooper joined BWF as a program officer on November 30, 2021. Cooper will oversee the Biomedical Sciences and Reproductive Sciences programs, which invest a combined $8 million a year in biomedical research. Cooper previously served as director of Duke University’s BioCoRE, where she was responsible for designing innovative and practical programming for the academic and professional development needs of graduate and undergraduate scholars. Prior to that, she helped lead recruitment and evaluation for the National Research Mentoring Network.

The James Irvine Foundation has announced the election of two new members to its board: BRENNA BUTLER GARCIA and TERESA MATSUI. Butler Garcia is vice president of community relations for A.G. Spanos Companies. Matsui is president and CEO of Matsui Nursery, Inc. and head of the Matsui Foundation. They will begin their terms in January.

The Richard King Mellon Foundation in Pittsburgh has announced the appointment of BOBBY ZAPPALA, chair of Ascender, one of the area’s leading business incubators, as program officer in its Social-Impact Investments program, which is focused on investments in for-profit companies. The foundation also announced that KEVIN L. JENKINS, CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, will be the second Prosser Mellon Fellow, a part-time post in which he will focus on advancing the foundation’s Health & Well-Being strategy.

The Kresge Foundation has announced the election of CECILIA MUÑOZ as board chair, effective March 2022. She will succeed ELAINE ROSEN, who will step down next spring and retire from the board in June, after eighteen years of dedicated service and leadership. Muñoz, who joined the Kresge board in 2017, is an expert on public policy and public interest technology with deep roots in Detroit and in the civil rights movement. She served for eight years in the Obama administration as director of intergovernmental affairs and director of the Domestic Policy Council, has worked at the National Council of La Raza (now UnidosUS) and New America, and currently is a senior fellow at Results for America and co-chair of Welcome.US.

The Meyer Memorial Trust has announced the promotion of BRENDA HODGES to the role of chief financial officer and KABERI BANERJEE MURTHY to the newly created role of chief impact officer. Hodges has served as director of finance for the last five years; in her new role, she will oversee and elevate the strategic value and impacts of other compliance functions, such as IT and operations. Banerjee Murthy has led Meyer's programs and strategy teams since 2018; her top priority as chief impact officer will be to bring a racial justice and intersectional feminist lens to the foundation’s work, centering community voice and shifts in power, as she oversees the development of its long-term strategy; grantmaking, programs, and advocacy; and the implementation of values-aligned evaluation.

The Open Society Foundations has announced the promotion of LALEH ISPAHANI to co-director of Open Society-U.S. In this new role, Ispahani will lead the Open Society-U.S. team along with executive director TOM PERRIELLO, while continuing to focus on protecting and expanding the right to vote, reducing the influence of money on politics, and ensuring that the Internet remains an open and secure platform for free expression and civic participation. OSF also announced the appointment of SMITA SINGH to the newly created role of chief strategy officer, effective January 12. Singh will guide the development of a new worldwide strategic direction for Open Society across its global and regional programs. Singh was founding director of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation’s Global Development Program and also oversaw the launch of the Hewlett and Gates foundations’ partnership for Quality Education in Developing Countries.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation has announced that JARRED GIBSON will join the foundation as a program officer overseeing the Advancing Public Education priority area in early 2022. Gibson most recently served as a project director with TNTP, a national education nonprofit that works to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education, and prior to that, was a math and science specialist for Teach For America.

Girl Scouts of the United States has announced SOFIA CHANG as its new CEO, effective January 27. Chang, who is a mother of a Girl Scout, a lifetime member, and a Juliette Gordon Low Society member, will succeed board member JUDITH BATTY, who came out of retirement in August 2020 to serve as interim CEO. The first Asian-American/Pacific Islander CEO in the organization's 110-year history, Chang previously worked at HBO/Warner Media, where she led the successful transformation of several businesses, advocated for women and diversity, served on the board of the Time Warner Foundation, was the executive sponsor of HBO's AAPI resource group, and was a member of HBO’s diversity council.

The New Leaders Council has announced the election of four new members to its board: ANNE MOSES, DAVID LEE, RAYMONDE CHARLES, and WENDY DAVIS. Moses is founder and president of IGNITE, which trains young women to become civically and politically engaged. Lee is co-founder and president of the Texas Signal, a progressive political news publication. Charles is vice president of communications, education, and venture at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. And Davis is a former Texas state senator, 2014 Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee, and founding director of the women’s political empowerment nonprofit Deeds Not Words.

The Women’s Funding Network has announced the election of three new members to its board, effective January 1, 2022: RENÉE JOSLYN, ASHLEI SPIVEY, and RASHMI YADAV MARYA. Joslyn is founder, principal, and managing director of Philanthropy Unbound and has served as director of girls and women integration at the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Global Initiative. Spivey is founder of I Be Black Girl, a collective that supports Black women, femmes, and girls to access their full potential through economic and reproduction freedom, and serves on the ACLU of Nebraska board as president and equity officer. Yadav Marya most recently served as board chair of Emerge, a national political organization focused on empowering women to serve in political office. The WFN board also announced the election of four new officers: MELANIE R. BROWN, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s interim deputy director of global policy and advocacy, North America, as chair; Peters Associates founder and CEO SUZANNE B. PETERS as vice chair; Missouri Foundation for Health chief financial officer JILL NOWAK as secretary; and Ms. Foundation for Women president and CEO TERESA C. YOUNGER as treasurer.
