People in the News (4/24/05): Appointments and Promotions

The California Endowment in Woodland Hills has named IGNATIUS BAU as director of its culturally competent health systems program. Bau, recently a program officer for the endowment, previously worked at the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, he has served on the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National HIV Prevention Planning Group, and the California Department of Health's Task Force on Multicultural Health.

The Southern Delaware office of the Delaware Community Foundation has named HUGH D. LEAHY JR. as senior vice president. Leahy, recently retired as executive vice president of personal financial services for Wilmington Trust, serves on the boards of the Reading ASSIST Institute, Padua Academy, and the Delaware Center of Economic Education and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware. He previously served as president and director of the Delaware Bankers Association.

Girls and Boys Town in Boys Town, Nebraska, has named STEVEN E. BOES as executive director. Boes, an ordained Catholic priest, is director of the St. Augustine Indian Mission and associate pastor of four Nebraska churches. He succeeds Father Val J. Peter, who held the directorship for twenty years.

The Dallas-based Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas has named DON SCALES to its board. Scales, president and CEO of Agency.com, an online marketing concern, was previously president and CEO of the company's North American operations and of its Dallas office.

In other news, Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, has named ROBERT WEISBUCH as president. Weisbuch, president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, worked for twenty-five years at the University of Michigan, including service as chair of its English department. He replaces former two-term New Jersey governor Thomas H. Kean, who will retire on June 30.
