People in the News (5/15/05): Appointments and Promotions

The Atlanta-based Arthur M. Blank Foundation has appointed JANINE E. LEE as vice president of its Fostering Opportunity program. Prior to joining the foundation, Lee was vice president of Kansas City Community and Philanthropic Initiatives at the Kansas City-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where she provided leadership in the creation of the youth development strategic plan and the Kauffman Scholars program. She also managed Project STAR (Students Taught Awareness and Resistance), a nationally recognized alcohol and drug-abuse program created and administered by the Kauffman Foundation.

New York City's Lincoln Center has named FRANK A. BENNACK JR. as chairman. Bennack, previously vice chairman and a member of the center's board, headed the Hearst Corporation for twenty-five years, and will remain its vice chairman. He will also continue as chairman of the Museum of Television and Radio, as a governor and vice chairman of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and its healthcare system, as a director of the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, and as chairman of the National Magazine Company of Britain.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has named HUGH GILDEA as controller. Gildea, previously controller for Dynamic Graphics, a global media company, has also worked at F&W Publications Inc.

The Baptist Health Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama, has named AUBREY MILLER as president and chief development officer. Miller, recently director of tourism and travel for Southern Living magazine, has also served as director of Alabama's department of tourism and travel, and as a vice president of the Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board. He serves on the boards of the Alabama School of Fine Arts, the Greater Shelby Education Foundation, and the Baptist Health System.

The Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in San Antonio, Texas, has named ANTHONY J. INFANTE as president. Infante, associate dean for research and a professor in pediatrics, microbiology, and immunology at the University of Texas Health Science Center medical school, also serves as director of the children's immunology clinic at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital.

In other news, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Stanford, California, has named CLAUDE M. STEELE as director. Steele, a former fellow and trustee of the center, is the Lucie Stern Professor in the Social Sciences at Stanford and has served on the faculties of the universities of Michigan, Washington, and Utah. He previously served as president of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology and the Western Psychological Association, and as chair of the Psychology Department at Stanford. He has also served on the board of the American Psychological Society.
