The Ford Foundation has announced the appointment of KAVITA N. RAMDAS as representative in its New Delhi office, which serves India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Most recently president and CEO of the Global Fund for Women, Ramdas previously served as executive director of Ripples to Waves, a program at Stanford University's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and was a visiting scholar at Stanford's Center on Democracy, Development, and Rule of Law and at the Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society. Currently, she serves as a trustee of Princeton University, Mount Holyoke College, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and sits on the boards of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the African Women's Development Fund USA. Ramdas also chairs the Women in Public Service Initiative, a joint effort of the U.S. State Department and an alliance of women's colleges; is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute; and chairs the expert working group of the Council of Global Leaders for Reproductive Health. She replaces STEVEN SOLNICK, the foundation's representative in New Delhi since 2008, who was recently named the president of Warren Wilson College.
The Bush Foundation has announced the elections of TONY HEREDIA and DEE THOMAS to three-year terms on its board. Heredia, currently vice president of compliance at Target Canada, previously worked as a senior IT associate at Booz Allen Hamilton and spent thirteen years in law enforcement in California. He currently serves as board chair of the Metropolitan Economic Development Association and on the boards of Hamline University and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Thomas, director of Minnesota New Country School, spent fifteen years as a K-12 classroom teacher and was an adjunct educator at Gustavus Adolphus College and Minnesota State University, Mankato. She also completed the Harvard University Change Leadership program and was a Fulbright Memorial Scholar in Japan.
The Terra Foundation for American Art has announced the appointment of ELIZABETH HUTTON TURNER as vice president of collections and curatorial affairs, effective January 2013. Hutton Turner, vice provost for the arts at the University of Virginia, has held a number of prominent positions in the field of American art, including senior curator at the Phillips Collection and museum program administrator at the National Endowment for the Humanities, and has served as an advisor, consultant, and board member for a variety of arts organizations, including the Calder Foundation and the Phillips Collection's Center for the Study of Modern Art.
The Nonprofit Finance Fund has announced the election of LISA HALL to its board. Hall, president and CEO of the Calvert Foundation, previously worked in real estate and community development finance at the Enterprise Foundation, JP Morgan Chase, and Travelers Insurance. In 2003, she participated in the American Marshall Memorial Fellowship, and she currently serves on the board of the Tides Network and on the executive committee of the Aspen Network for Development Entrepreneurs.
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation has announced the election of CHARLES M. DIKER to its board and ELIZABETH RICHEBOURG REA as an honorary trustee. Diker, board chair of Cantel Medical Corp., also is a director of Loews Corporation, managing partner of investment firm Diker Management LLC, and founding chair of the National Museum of the American Indian's George Gustav Heye Center. Richebourg Rea, a curator and fine-art photographer, is also president of the Dungannon Foundation. Earlier, she worked in curatorial roles at the Museum of Modern Art, the Leo Castelli Gallery, and the Castelli/Feigen/Corcoran Gallery. She has served on the Art and Museum Committee of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and currently serves on the advisory board of the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice.
The Washington Area Women's Foundation has announced the appointment of SAMIA FAROUKI and ROBERT T. GRIMM, JR., to its board. Farouki, founder and president of HII Finance Corp., currently serves on the boards of Vital Voices, Teach for America (D.C. region), the King Hussein Foundation, the King Hussein Cancer Center, the World Conference on Religions for Peace, and the Arab American Institute. She and her husband, A. Huda Farouki, also co-chair the Kennedy Center's International Committee for the Arts and the Aspen Institute's Middle East programs. Grimm, director of the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland at College Park, served previously as director of research and policy development and senior counselor to the CEO at the Corporation for National and Community Service, where he played a key role in the passage and implementation of the Kennedy Serve America Act.
In other news, PND notes the passing of LAWRENCE D. MORELAND, senior vice president for finance and administration at the William T. Grant Foundation, on June 10 after a battle with cancer. Moreland joined the foundation in 2001 and also served as assistant treasurer, officer of the foundation, and member of its senior management team. Previously, he served as CFO of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and of St. John's Community Services, as assistant auditor general for New York City's Board of Education, and as director of contract agency finance for the New York City Department of Youth Services. Moreland's involvement in the nonprofit community also included service as treasurer of Philanthropy New York, advisory work for the Council on Foundations, and audit committee service for both the Association of Black Foundation Executives and the Bide-A-Wee Association.
