People in the News (6/26/05): Appointments and Promotions
The Freedom Forum in Arlington, Virginia, has named HOWARD H. BAKER, JR., TOM DASCHLE, WILMA MANKILLER, and KENNETH A. PAULSON as trustees. Baker, a former U.S. senator from Tennessee, was the Senate Republican majority leader from 1981 to 1985 and more recently was the U.S. ambassador to Japan. Daschle, a former senator from South Dakota, was the Senate majority leader in January 2001 and again from June 2001 to January 2003, and is now a special policy adviser in the law firm Alston & Bird. Mankiller was formerly principal chief of the Cherokee Nation. Paulson is editor of USA TODAY.
The Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region in Appleton, Wisconsin, has named CATHY MUTSCHLER as vice president of foundation services. Mutschler was previously chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of the Fox River Area, a position she held for two years.
Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, Georgia, has elected JOHN GILBERT to its board. Gilbert is board chair for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, where he has worked for more than forty years, serving in a variety of roles, including president and CEO. He also serves as chairman of the board of regents for Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and is a trustee of the Luther Seminary Foundation in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Children's charity KidsPeace in Orefield, Pennsylvania, has named MICHAEL J. VOGEL as chair. Vogel, executive vice president of office products company ACCO North America, was formerly president of Day-Timers, and has previously served on the charity's board.
In other news, the U.S. Athletic Trust in Briarcliff Manor, New York, has named AMORY ROWE as president. Rowe, a professional triathlete, graduated from Princeton University in 1995. She replaces August Wolf, a 1984 Olympian in the shot put who founded the trust in 2000.
