People in the News (7/07/13): Appointments and Promotions

The Clinton Foundation has announced the appointment of ERIC BRAVERMAN as CEO. Braverman joins the foundation after sixteen years at McKinsey & Company, where he worked in a variety of capacities. He also has experience with disaster relief and reconstruction and worked with the Clinton Foundation on its recovery efforts in Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake there. The foundation also announced that BRUCE LINDSEY, who has served as the foundation's CEO since 2004, will continue to serve the foundation as board chair, counselor, and advisor to Braverman, and that CHELSEA CLINTON will serve as vice chair.

The Liberty Hill Foundation has announced the appointment of SHANE MURPHY GOLDSMITH as president and CEO, effective December 1. Goldsmith, currently executive director of the foundation, previously served as its vice president and director of programs. Earlier, Goldsmith served as executive director of PATH Ventures and as a senior advisor to former Los Angeles City Council president Eric Garcetti, and ran Los Angeles Council District 13's Leadership Institute. KAFI D. BLUMENFIELD, the foundation's president and CEO since 2007, will remain with the organization through November 30 to assist with the transition.

Commonfund has announced the promotion of DONALD T. PASCAL to the top spot at Commonfund Capital, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Commonfund focused on private equity, venture capital, and natural resources investing. Pascal, who has worked at Commonfund since 1998, has thirty years of experience managing private capital at several companies, including Victory Ventures LLC, the Noel Group, the Prospect Group, E.M. Warburg Pincus & Co., and Strategic Planning Associates. He succeeds SUSAN J. CARTER, who will continue in her role as CEO of Commonfund Capital.

The Minnesota Council on Foundations has announced the appointment of TARA KUMAR as member services manager. Kumar, most recently member services manager for Metro Meals on Wheels in Minneapolis-St. Paul, has more than ten years of experience working with nonprofit organizations in the areas of capacity building and grants/program management.

In other news, the Donors Forum in Chicago has announced a new slate of officers for the fiscal year beginning July 1: DONALD A. COOKE, senior vice president of philanthropy at the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, chair; TAMMY LEMKE, vice president of operations at Advocate Charitable Foundation, treasurer; EVETTE CARDONA, vice president of programs for the Polk Bros. Foundation and CAREN YANIS, president of the Arie and Ida Crow Memorial - Crown Family Philanthropies, vice chairs; and ERNEST VASSEUR, executive director of the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County, secretary. The forum also announced the election of GREG CAMERON, executive director of the Joffrey Ballet, to its board.
