PepsiCo announces expansion of global food security efforts

PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation have announced an expansion of their efforts to advance global food security.

As part of their contributions to the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge, in which they pledged to invest a total of $100 million in agriculture and food security initiatives by 2030, the latest commitment includes efforts to expand the Food for Good program to help boost the productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers and increase access to nutritious food. Investments include working with partners such as World Food Program USA, United Nations (UN) World Food Programme, and CARE International as well as local organizations working to empower women through regenerative agriculture; mobilize initiatives in communities where there is substantial vulnerability in Africa, Middle East, Latin America, and Asia; and provide increased access to nutrition through the Pioneer School Breakfast Nutrition Programme in South Africa and malnutrition interventions in Mexico and Guatemala. In addition, the company and its foundation will launch new initiatives to educate about and address global food insecurity, including a podcast, a video series, and a partnership with FEED, an impact-driven brand.

“We’re answering the call to address escalating global food insecurity and we plan to continue with our significant investments,” said C.D. Glin, vice president, PepsiCo Foundation and global head of philanthropy, PepsiCo. “But to make a meaningful impact, everyone with a role to play in our global food systems must be a part of the solution to address the immediate need and work on approaches to prevent us from landing in this place of crisis again.”
