The Pew Charitable Trusts has announced three multiyear grants totaling $4 million to Philadelphia-area nonprofits working to improve the lives of the city’s older residents.

A five-year, $2.5 million grant to Pathways to Housing PA will bolster efforts to increase affordable housing for aging members of the community who are chronically homeless, particularly those living with mental illness or substance use disorder challenges. A five-year, $1.25 million grant to the SeniorLAW Center will expand its legal services for seniors and improve access to those services through an improved intake process and a community education program. And a two-year, $250,000 grant to Health Federation of Philadelphia will support a program to address the long-term care needs of older adults living with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.

“Older Philadelphians, particularly those with low incomes or suffering from mental illness or substance use disorder, are a population that is too often overlooked,” said Pew Fund for Health and Human Services project director Kristin Romens. “With these grants, Pew is supporting organizations that are dedicated to helping seniors thrive.”
