Pew Trusts names three classes of biomedical research fellows

Pew Charitable Trusts has announced three cohorts of biomedical research fellows who will receive multiyear grants to pursue scientific interests in the United States and Latin America.

This year’s class of the Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences includes 22 researchers, the largest of the three programs, while the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences includes 10 fellows, and another six were named to the Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research. Researchers in the three programs will focus on five areas: infectious disease prevention and treatment, the human brain, decoding cancer development, unraveling the human genome, and intestinal health and disease.

“Biomedical researchers are at the forefront of scientific innovation, seeking answers to the world’s most pressing questions in human health,” project director Kara Coleman and Jennifer Villa, an officer with the foundation’s biomedical programs, wrote in a statement. “For 37 years, the Pew Charitable Trusts has encouraged these pursuits by supporting promising, early-career biomedical scientists tackling these challenges and driving medical breakthroughs.”
