Pollock-Krasner Foundation awards grants totaling $3.35 million
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York City has announced grants totaling $3.35 million to a hundred and thirty-seven U.S.-based and international artists and nonprofit organizations.
During its 2020-21 grant cycle, the foundation awarded funding in support of artists in seventeen states, Puerto Rico, and fourteen countries, providing critical support that enabled them to create new work, purchase materials, rent studio space, prepare for and mount exhibitions, and offset living expenses amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients of this year's Lee Krasner Award — given in recognition of lifetime achievement — include Rita McBride, Cheryl Ann Thomas, Squeak Carnwath, Blane De St. Croix, Laddie John Dill, and Morgan O'Hara. The $30,000 Brian Wall Foundation Grant for Sculptors was awarded to Alex Schweder.
The foundation also awarded grants in support of nonprofits that engage directly with artists and work to extend the legacies of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock through scholarship opportunities and exhibitions of Krasner and Pollock's work. Recipients include the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City), the Charlotte Street Foundation (Kansas City, Missouri), and Kunsthalle Basel (Basel, Switzerland).
"As we continue to fulfill Lee Krasner's vision of supporting working artists internationally, we are proud to provide artists the opportunity to practice and advance their work," said Pollock-Krasner Foundation chair and CEO Ronald D. Spencer. "This year, we are also honored to have provided funding to the Musée National d'Art Moderne Centre Pompidou for its 'Women in Abstraction' catalogue that accompanies its exhibition of the same title. Significantly, the exhibition presents the work and elevates the profile of many artists, including Krasner."
