Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana receives $50 million for expansion

The Providence Tarzana Foundation has announced a $50 million gift from Donald and Andrea Friese and their family in support of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

The largest gift ever to a Providence hospital in California will support renovations and an expansion of the medical center. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2023, calls for a near doubling of emergency department treatment bays from eighteen to thirty-three, upgrades to equipment, and an increase in staff head count; an expansion of the pediatric intensive care unit; the addition of thirteen fully modernized operating rooms equipped with robotic surgery and medical imaging technology; and a hybrid suite designed specifically for cardiovascular surgery. In recognition of the gift, the new five-story patient tower will be named after the Friese family.

"The San Fernando Valley has been our home for decades. We've raised our family and built our business in Southern California," said Don Friese, a former CEO of glass products manufacturer and distributor C.R. Laurence. "We want to give back to the community that has given us so much. We can't think of a better way to express our gratitude than to help bring world-class health care close to home."

"Don and Andrea Friese are giving the most precious gift of all to their local community," said Providence Tarzana Foundation chief philanthropy officer Matthew Rinnert. "The gift of health and well-being."
