Public-private partnership to protect bird migration in Americas

Birds flying through the sky.

A public-private partnership has been launched in support of efforts dedicated to conserving, restoring, and managing the migration routes of birds in the Americas, La Prensa Latina Bilingual Media reports.

The Americas Flyaway Initiative, an alliance between the Development Bank for Latin America (CAF), BirdLife International, and the National Audobon Society, was launched at the Biodiversity COP15 summit in Canada. The three organizations have contributed about $1 million to the initiative to fund the process of selecting at least 30 projects. Three of the world’s eight main bird migration routes are located in the Americas, and the initiative aims to protect the routes.

“It’s an unprecedented alliance because it unites philanthropy, science, and a financial institution like the CAF,” CAF climate action manager Alicia Montalvo told La Prensa Latina Bilingual Media.
